Job Description:

The Communications Manager is responsible for implementing communications strategies and programs designed to create and maintain a favorable public image of RaceTrac, Inc. across all internal and external audiences. This individual ensures all communications have a consistent look and feel and maintain the organization’s corporate image and identity. The Communications Manager determines the most effective way to deliver brand messages to all audiences. 

Responsibilities:

Overview

  • Develops and manages corporate communications that align with RPI’s value proposition, are consistent with the brand and promote a positive image for the company both at the Store Support Center and in the field.

  • Supervises, manages and supports internal and external communications within RaceTrac, ensuring alignment with company identity and culture.

  • Collaborates with the Branding, Creative, Promotions and Partnerships/Project Management groups to evaluate advertising and promotion programs to ensure compatibility with RaceTrac’s communications efforts.

  • Serves as strong cross-functional consensus-builder, comfortable working with internal and external stakeholders to support the company’s groups and initiatives, driving alignment for communication strategies.

  • Supports preparedness for effective crisis communications, including developing and maintaining internal procedures that facilitate efficient, effective and well-coordinated responses to unexpected events.

  • Hires, develops and manages the day-to-day performance of the Communications Coordinators, which includes but is not limited to establishing goals, managing performance issues, motivating the team and creating development plans.

  • Supports preparedness for effective crisis communications as it relates to store operations, including supporting and maintaining internal procedures that facilitate efficient, effective and well-coordinated responses to unexpected events.

External Communications/Public Relations

  • Serves as day-to-day company spokesperson with support from Director of Communications & Partnerships.

  • Manages media relations for RaceTrac, which includes drafting talking points for company spokespeople and arranging and monitoring interviews for RaceTrac’s subject matter experts.

  • Utilizes strong writing and communications skills to develop and drive messaging across company and products; work to regularly update with new announcements, product introductions, company campaigns, new directives, etc.

  • Manages development of media statements, fact sheets, pitches, FAQs, releases, memos and other communications.

  • Promotes key corporate initiatives and milestones and ties them to RaceTrac’s value proposition.

  • Responds to requests for information about RaceTrac’s activities/status across internal and external audiences.

  • Supports crisis communications efforts and is heavily involved with brand reputation for the company.

  • Works with corporate counsel to develop communications strategies to support RaceTrac’s government relations efforts.

  • Manages agency relationship and day-to-day PR activities, including managing Communications budget.

Internal Communications

  • Oversees company-wide internal communication channels and implements new strategies and channels to drive employee engagement across the company.

  • Works with Communications Coordinator to drive content management for company intranet.

  • Ensures internal communication strategies engage employees and provide them with a ‘line of sight' between their role and the Company's value prop.

  • Develops content and provides trusted communication for RaceTrac leadership.

  • Works with senior leadership team to develop content and facilitate regular company Town Halls to keep team members informed and connected.

Leadership

  • Leads the communications team by developing and coaching with a focus on sharing knowledge, increasing efficiencies and promoting the company brand image.

  • Ensures communications goals and initiatives are aligned with the business’ needs and priorities, remains aware of competition and identifies potential opportunities for RaceTrac.

  • Manages short and long-term planning in areas of budgeting, goal setting and team development.

  • Promotes a compliant and professional team in alignment with RaceTrac’s Core Values and Leadership Qualities.

Qualifications:

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Communications/ Public Relations. MBA a plus
•    4 – 7 years of related experience preferred
•    Proficient in MS Office Suite required
•    Proven ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and written)
•    Proven project management experience 
•    Detail oriented and organized
