Job Description:

The Data Scientist works alongside the Data Science and Advanced Analytics team members to build mathematical, statistical, and decision support models to help business partners make informed decisions. This individual is responsible for successfully implementing analytics to gain meaningful insights and solve business problems. The Data Scientist researches and devises innovative statistical models to help the organization make data driven decisions. 0% travel required.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with internal customers to identify, define, and resolve a variety of complex business problems and to support various corporate initiatives
  • Acts as an internal consultant to various managers in the formulation of business decisions, action plans, and improved decision-making
  • Identifies sources of data and methods to improve data collection and analysis.
  • Gathers and manipulates large data sets to prepare clean, relevant data for analysis
  • Applies knowledge of data science and analysis to solving real-world problems faced by the organization and identifies opportunities for improvement across multiple projects, teams and business units
  • Uses machine learning, predictive modeling, and analytical techniques to build solution approaches, interprets key findings from company data, and leverages insights to support business outcomes
  • Uses statistical programming languages to perform advanced analyses and predictive analytics on big data sets
  • Collects, processes, and performs statistical data analysis to enable smarter business processes and data-driven decisions
  • Develops and maintains framework to implement data science and advanced analytics models in a production environment to be used by members of the business as decision support tools
  • Communicates analytic solutions to stakeholders and implements improvements as needed to existing systems
  • Manages expectations for the project sponsors, internal customers, teams and vendors around project goals, objectives, scope, and timelines
  • Keeps current with technical and industry developments
  • Partners with the team in an effort to share knowledge and develop analytical and professional skills

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, Mathematics or related field required
  • Masters Degree or PhD preferred
  • 3+ years experience of data mining, mathematics, predictive modeling, and statistical analysis required
  • Knowledge of statistical software packages such as R, SAS, SPSS, or Stata preferred
  • Experience with SQL and programming languages (Python)
  • Comfort working in a dynamic, research-oriented group with several ongoing concurrent projects
  • Familiarity or use of machine learning techniques preferred
  • Experience working in a retail or transportation environment a plus
