Job Description:

Reporting to the VP, Human Resources, the Director of Compensation & Benefits serves as a strategic human resources leader and is responsible for the design, implementation, and administration of competitive total compensation and benefits programs for RaceTrac. The Director is responsible for ensuring all of the Company’s compensation and benefits policies, programs, and practices are competitive, sustainable, scalable, and have an impact on the long- and short-term performance of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Compensation
    • Responsible for the overall design, implementation, communication, and administration of the organization’s compensation programs, including the establishment of a corporate compensation philosophy and manual
    • Leads competitive market research to establish pay practices and salary/wage structures that attract, motivate and retain associates
    • Monitors all pay practices and programs for effectiveness and cost containment
    • Responsible for monitoring the design, analysis, and implementation of total executive compensation; including the design, development, and administration of base pay, annual incentives, and investigation of long-term incentive programs
    • Serves as a resource to management in the development of bonus and incentive plans that are consistent with the Company‘s overall philosophy, partnering with senior leadership as required 
    • Partners with compensation consultants to recommend, design and implement new compensation and incentive programs to attract and retain key talent for RaceTrac
    • Manages the development and maintenance of the salary structure and job evaluation process
    • Conducts an annual review of corporate salaried, corporate hourly, in-store hourly & in-store salaried pay and incentive programs and develops recommendations for wage, salary structure, and incentive updates 
    • Develops communications, plan documents, and training for all compensation programs
    • Oversees the administration of the annual merit process, including market adjustments and promotions; recommends best practice changes to existing processes
    • Presents recommendations and analysis to the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Directors, as needed, for buy-in and approval
  • Benefits
    • Responsible for the overall design, implementation, communication, and administration of the organization’s benefits programs, including health, welfare, voluntary, and retirement plans
    • Develops and manages a competitive and comprehensive benefits program in accordance with the company’s strategic vision and objectives
    • Evaluates, recommends and leads the implementation of changes to employee benefit plans, as well as manages third party vendor partners and administrative solutions
    • Responsible for the overall design, implementation, communication, and administration of the organization’s 401(k) plan, including acting as Chair of the 401(k) Committee and regularly interfacing with the 401(k) recordkeeper and fiduciary/investment advisor
    • Partners with RaceTrac’s benefits consultants to create a short- and long-term benefits strategy to attract and retain key talent while measuring effectiveness and managing costs
    • Acts as the primary liaison with our consultants and vendors, interfaces with internal and external auditors, and ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations
    • Presents recommendations and analysis to the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Directors, as needed, for buy-in and approval
    • Oversees the design, monitoring, and reporting of the Company’s leave programs
    • Oversees the annual benefits enrollment process, training, and communication activities, including configuration and testing in Workday
    • Proactively protects health information subject to the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 and RaceTrac’s HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and procedures, including training of key staff
    • Participates on the Company’s COVID-19 Taskforce to recommend policies, practices, and reporting to Senior Leadership

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree with an emphasis in human resources, business, or related field required
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) and/or Certified Benefits Professional (CEBS/ CBP) designation preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in a similar compensation and benefits role with prior 401(k) plan experience
  • 3-5 years of experience with Workday preferred
  • 5+ years leading direct reports and managing cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated effective management and leadership skills
  • Ability to effectively interface with all levels of management and employees
  • A creative approach to problem solving, with a humble, team-oriented and solutions-focused attitude
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to convey complex ideas in a simple manner and to tailor key messages and presentation style to multiple audiences
  • Goal-oriented with the demonstrated ability to prioritize on a consistent basis in an ever-changing environment and the ability to execute from ideation to conclusion
