Job Description:

The Food Innovation Intern is responsible for supporting the analysis and execution of RaceTrac’s food and beverage offers. This individual assists in food service projects and product management, ultimately influencing the overall financial impact of the team. In addition to departmental support, the intern contributes to a specific Intern Group Project to gain company-wide perspective and develop a solution to enhance the business.


Departmental Duties (approximately 80% time dedication)

  • Manages multiple projects of their own from culinary ideation to in-store implementation throughout the course of the summer
  • Communicates with field personnel and category management to execute promotions, track changes, and exchange pertinent information and ideas.
  • Coordinates food product information (including retail, cost, rebates, planograms, etc.) to communicate a consistent message to customers and stores from the appropriate category.
  • Evaluates performance to identify opportunities for process improvement and introduction to new product offers and services.
  • Conducts research and evaluation of food service industry trends, consumer dynamics, and internal sales data.
  • Completes short-term store training designed to gain experience and perspective in retail store operations and new product development.

Special Projects Intern Group Project (approximately 20% time dedication)

  • Collaborates with other intern group team members to create and develop a business plan for a specific company-wide initiative determined by senior leaders.
  • Utilizes internal resources and project sponsors to obtain strategic insight and gain buy-in from internal stakeholders. 
  • Prepares a business presentation to showcase to senior management at the conclusion of the internship.


  • Current enrollment in a college or university in Merchandising, Business, Food or Hospitality related field preferred
  • Strong understanding of project management and execution
  • Knowledge of Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, Office) preferred
  • GPA 3.0 or higher preferred
  • Previous internship experience preferred
