Job Description:

The Senior Manager of Architecture and Design leads a team that executes exterior signage and interior décor programs related to the Architecture, Design, and/or Store Planning of the RaceTrac or RaceWay divisions. This individual focuses on permanent signage, exterior signage, and store sign kits for in support of the Architecture & Design Director. In addition, the Manager is responsible for material and supply selections, negotiating costs, managing vendors, and determining product quality.


  • Manages prototype standards with Signage and Decor firms and external vendors.
  • Reviews and analyzes construction plans, sketches, shop drawings, specifications for all exterior signage to ensure all designs conform to prototype standards and brand guidelines. Translates designs as needed to A&E firms to coordinate into CDs.
  • Able to manage multiple projects from conceptual design through submittals and production.  Working knowledge of the sign industry to assist with managing external vendors is a major plus.
  • Coordinates with internal clients/consultants to provide design documents to the Engineering, Construction, Marketing and Operations departments for submittal to local jurisdictions, not limited to but including renderings and sample boards.
  • Manages a team responsible for reviewing brand books, researching, and understanding sign codes, assisting with documentation for Engineering to permit, writing variance reports and helping manage RaceTrac’s signage vendors.
  • Researches and understands materials to choose the best options for the RaceTrac brand to ensure timely delivery, accuracy, cost-sensitivity and consistency.
  • Strategizes with various cross-functional internal departments to ensure all interior décor at the store level is cohesive and within Brand standards.  Works with external vendors to ensure décor and graphics books are updated regularly and communicates changes with Construction.
  • Creates and communicates changes to permanent in-store signage with Category, Food Program Offers, Promotions, Creative, Construction and Operations teams.
  • Facilitates communication between various departments regarding remodel, grand-opening, rollout, and closing signage and procedures.
  • Evaluates and recommends suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery speed to accomplish project objectives.
  • Reviews signage and décor samples and creates master file books for RT reference to ensure intent, colors, quality, and installation requirements.
  • Attends meetings, trade shows, and conferences to learn about new industry trends and make contacts with new suppliers.
  • Supports the Marketing Team and other departments within the SSC in developing signs and displays for Brand, Promotions, and events within our office.


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, Construction, or related field preferred
  • 7+ years Architecture, Construction, Signage, Interiors, or Engineering experience in a retail environment required
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Corel. Familiar with Revit a plus.
