Job Description:

  The Senior Sales Tax Analyst is responsible for working with the Company’s 3rd party provider to support all preparation, filing, estimating, paying and reconciling of all non-income tax based returns/accounts for the US. The Senior Sales Tax Analyst may also be responsible for working with the Company’s 3rd party provider to support the real and personal property tax compliance process and make associated payments.  This role will also help maintain the tax software system, document compliance processes and provide support/training to the business, purchasing and accounts payable departments. Additional responsibilities of the position will be to perform data analysis, be proactive in identifying potential tax issues, assist on state and local tax examination matters, as needed, and be involved, as requested, in special projects.


  • Completes general tax accounting functions including research, report/spreadsheet preparation, account interpretation and analysis.
  • Reviews, investigates and corrects errors and inconsistencies in tax entries and reports and communicates with government officials with regard to tax questions as necessary.
  • Prepares tax returns for weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual filings.
  • Compiles information for audits to ensure that all companies comply with all federal, state and local tax legislation.
  • Collaborates on tax solutions with departments such as Supply and Distribution and Accounting to ensure that the necessary tax information is collected and the proper tax methods are implemented.
  • Reads and interprets tax law and assesses the company’s policies to ensure that taxes are prepared in compliance with tax legislation.
  • Responds to customer and Accounting inquiries regarding tax rates, exemptions, and taxability.
  • Remains knowledgeable and stays up to date on applicable tax law and general business practices.
  • Becomes proficient in tax software such as Avalara (excise tax), OneSource (sales and income tax) and RIA Checkpoint (tax research), in addition to the company trading platforms Allegro and PDI and Workday.
  • Evaluates current processes and procedures and offers improvements where applicable.
  • Recognizes what needs to be done in certain situations and takes action without being told.  Acts rather than reacts and takes advantage of opportunities that others pass by.


    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
    • CPA or CMI preferred.
    • 3-5 years’ experience in public accounting or a tax department required.
    • Retail & food experience a plus
    • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to recognize and react to changing business needs.
    • Must display outstanding verbal, written, technical communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong ability to effectively use sales & use tax law research tools (CCH preferred).
    • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
    • Comprehensive knowledge of sales & use tax software for compliance, billing and purchasing
    • Ability to research tax topics and interpret the information to provide a conclusion based on the research
    • Demonstrates willingness and ability to be a self-starter, taking the initiative to solve problems and pursue business opportunities.
    • Tax automation and implementation experience a plus
    • Familiarity with Workday a plus.
    • Familiarity with Alteryx and robotic process automation is a plus.
