Job Description

The Director of Talent Development and Learning is responsible for providing strategic direction for the Learning and Talent Management teams that aligns with and supports the organization’s business strategy. This individual ensures department objectives align with overall RaceTrac business objectives and strategy in addition to being accountable for execution and measures of success. The Director Talent Development and Learning oversees the teams responsible for all learning objectives and programs as well as the execution and implementation of the talent strategy focused on employee development and succession planning.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leader

  • Leads the Learning and Talent Management Teams and grows talent to support future roles in the organization; develops, coaches, and trains the current Learning and Talent Management teams with a focus on sharing knowledge and providing the tools necessary to increase department growth and exposure.
  • Promotes a compliant and professional team in alignment with RaceTrac’s Core Values, Leadership Qualities, and The RaceTrac Way.
  • Serves as the point of contact and voice of the Learning and Talent Management teams and coordinates team involvement on cross-functional projects, specifically those supporting RaceTrac’s store operations.
  • Actively engages in external networking and relationships to remain ahead of industry trends and learning and talent management tools, leveraging that knowledge to strengthen RaceTrac Petroleum, Inc.’s competitive advantage through people.
  • Drives process improvement strategies that increase efficiencies, simplify our guests’ and associates’ lives, and drive speed to proficiency.

Learning Team

  • Leads the improvement of current and creation of new leadership and development programs through continual research and providing valuable feedback; partners with department executives and leaders to determine development solutions per request or through actively seeking areas of opportunity.
  • Delivers on internal customer demands with speed and accuracy, leveraging internal training resources or leveraging contract services to deliver during peak demand times.
  • Adopts new ideas, approaches, and strategic learning technologies and drives solutions for programs and technologies that track training participation and drive behavior change and skills advancement.
  • Develops programs to effectively train and develop store team members, focusing on speed to proficiency and technology solutions that effectively scale with company growth.
  • Oversees organizational development, including internal training programs and the use of outside training offerings.
  • Promotes a culture of employee engagement by equipping employees with necessary resources in learning and development.
  • Engages and influences key leadership within the organization to adopt learning programs that are in the best interests of RaceTrac’s current and future goals.

Talent Management Team

  • Develops and drives the implementation of a company-wide talent strategy that includes nimble programs, simplified policies, and robust tools that support employee development and deliver on succession plans needed for future company growth and change.
  • Delivers solutions that focus on the creation of a radically candid environment to foster accountability at every level.
  • Drives discussions and collaboration with leadership for developing high potential employees and their career paths.
  • Continuously looks for ways to enhance and/or improve current talent and succession processes, tools, and offerings while leveraging best practices and technology.
  • Builds understanding and internal support for Talent Management initiatives, data, and processes and serves as a trusted adviser on Talent Management best practices.  


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university or equivalent professional experience required
  • 5+ years working directly in employee learning and/or talent development functions required
  • 5+ years’ experience in Human Resources leadership preferred
  • Retail or multi-unit experiences a plus
  • Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment; recognize and react to changing business needs
  • Must display outstanding verbal, written, and technical communication skills across all levels of the organization
  • Experience in strategic business planning, specifically as it relates to talent deployment, preferred
